The supper crowd milled about the outside street cafe selecting tables and talking in the evening light. Gwythyr was happy. His shift as a waiter was over and he was now able to do what he enjoyed most: play his music. He tuned his harp indoors and went out and sat on his seat by the cafe doors in the cool air. There was a smattering of applause when Gwythyr stepped out into the fading light.
Gwythyr trelled a chord and began to sing in his high tenor voice.
The forest runs forever, The downs are ever deep. The river flowing softly The flowers are asleep. The sighing wind unbroken Its ever-running song The gentle boughs bespoken For ere had not seemed long.
He sang a verse in Elvish, in the same strange, haunting melody. Most of the diners were silent, listening to the young Elf play.
When he finished they applauded. Dusk had settled now, and the hanging lights burned a cheerful yellow over the cafe.
A thin film of conversation returned in the crowd, and Gwythyr began to play another song, without words. Through the music he expressed his love for the forest, his yearning for peace, his community with the sky and the trees and the mountains. He played on while the crowd ate and talked.
People tipped him well when they left.

As Gai came walking up the street he eard a beautiful sound. Music! but not just any music, it was an Elvish song. He quickened his pace and saw a young elf playing a harp.
when he got closer he saw that he was about two years younger then himelf. "Hello there. Thats a nice song. Where'd you learn to play the harp like that?" he said as he looked him up and down. Hm...one of the few true elves around. "I only know how to play the songs of old." he said as he sat down and began to pluck a few strings on hs own harp that he had found ealier that day in his house.

"An old friend taught me," Gwythyr said, pausing in his playing. "Thank you for your compliment."
The dinner patrons had mostly left by now. Gwythyr rested his harp on his knee.
"Don't I know you from somewhere?" he asked the friendly stranger.

"*sigh* No. I no only one other full elf. And she is not what you would call, hope holding of traditions." he said as he looked out at the stars. "I thought the same of you but relized that I didn't." he began to play again.

Gwythyr saw the harp that the man held. "So you play too," he said. "Where are you from?"

"I'm from Galixia. My father traveled there long ago. He was an elf. He then met my mother there. She was human. I was then born half elf half human. My father then began to fight the evil king there and our family had to leave because if we had stayed the I surely wouldn't be here talking to you as I am now. I had a sister that I didn't now about until a few years ago. When I found out I was on a planet called Ria. I then began the life of a wanderer after having my heart broken by a girl I loved. Thats basicaly the summary of my life. Where do you come from." he said as he looked up at th stars once again.
He was starting to like this guy. Maybe, just maybe if he was like him and was a wanderer like himself and didn't know what to do, then Gai could show him the ropes. "Hey, you're new around here right? If you want I can show you around and introduce you to all the right people to befriend. There are many evil pleople a creatures around here. If you're willing then I can teach you the way to fight them all." he said as he drew his sword and sat it down next to him.

Gwythyr had sat listening as the man told his story.
"I've been around here for about four years," he said. "Before that I grew up in the forest. My family and friends were killed before I came here. I've lived and worked in this city ever since. But now with all the fighting going on... I feel like I should do something. Help the wounded. Slay the evil. Bring peace. It's - what my father would have wanted. He was a great fighter. I seem to be cut from a different tree, as they say. But I want to make a difference."

"Oh. I..I'm sorry. I know what it's like to have no family. I have no family aswell. They where ruthlessly murdered by an android. I have had to fend for myself ever since." he said with hatered in his voice.

"My family was killed by a sea monster," Gwythyr said.
After a moment he stood up and stretched. The diners had left and one or two waiters were cleaning the tables. "I don't believe we've met properly," he remarked. "My name is Gwythyr Llewellyn Werbenec. You may call me Gwythyr. What is your name?"

Standing as well. "Oh, i'm sorry. I'm Gai Himora, but you can just call me Gai. Everyone else does. Hey, how would you like to come to the New Wave Millitary Academy, and train under me. I could get you in without any problemseeing as I'm the second in commmand there." he said offering his hand to Gwythyr.

"The New Wave Military Academy," Gwythyr said, reflectively. "I've heard of it. Where is it?"

"Just a few minutes away. We could head over there now if you like. There are bunkers that you ca stay in if you like." he said as he began to move around with sword at hand.

Gwythyr carefully put his handmade harp into its case. "Well," he said. "It sounds good, if I can handle it. How about I come with you to look it over tomorrow morning?"

Pondering over this for a moment, Gai gave his consent. "Alright. That should work." he said as he stood up. "See you tomorrow then." he said as he started to walk away.
