The sound of wings beating slowly disappeared as Mequidra's temporary wings melted away and he dropped about twenty feet to the ground. He splashed like a raindrop as he hit the ground, and peices of shapeshifter flew everywhere, slowly sinking into the ground. In moments, they pulled themselves onto the surface and slowly began to be drawn together. In moments, Mequidra was back to his previous form. He scanned the skies, looking for DarkUmbra. The shapeshifter thought he had been following him . . .

Perhaps this intrepid shape shifter was incorrect about DarkUmbra, perhaps not. Suddenly, the half-elf Mellira appeared (How i'm not quite sure) finger combing whisps of hair from her eyes and blinking in the bright sunlight that filtered through the palm frons. She was already starting to sweat, from the heavy humidity, and was ready for what ever might come her way.

As DarkUmbra's shadow-powers neared their end, he dropped from several hundred feet in the air landing on the shapeshifter. Because of his strange makeup, he was not hurt nor the shadow creature. He collapsed to the ground in the shadows and passed out.

Her long hair was begining to curl about her ears where the little whisps that weren't quite grown hung. The air was dense, as though there would soon be a storm, but the golden-sandy ground baked the soles of her de-booted feet. (Mel took off her shoes and cloak upon reaching the warm land.) Carefully, she checked her bow and quiver of arrows. The storm and presence of the unknown made her uneasy after meeting Dark Umbra.[glow=red,2,300]Good. All but one[/glow]She had spent that one already, shooting Dark Umbra when he had been threatening her. [glow=blue,2,300]DarkUmbra, I see you.[/glow] She cried, ready to prove she wasn't afraid again.

Having landed in the shadows, DarkUmbra quickly awoke and healed from the monumentus fall. Having his shadow-powers recharged, he instantly emitted his shrowd of shadows and began to charge black energy.
[glow=purple,2,300]Beware Mellira! Although I have befriended you in the past, now is a different time.[/glow]
Realizing that the creature had not seen Mequidra yet, he attempted to pass a silent message to him, considering the shapeshifter uses telepathy to communicate.
[glow=gold,2,300]Mequidra, heed my thoughts! Attack now for she knows not of your presence.[/glow]

Mequidra reared up behind the girl. His hand slowly began to morph, taking on the appearence of a mechanical claw.
[glow=gold,2,300]"Creature, you have chosen a poor spot to be in. I think you will find yourself in pain quite quickly."[/glow]
The claw on his arm solidified, and energy began crackling between the spires. Soon, a ball of plasma sat at the end of the limb, electrical energy shooting from particle to particle in an orb of gas.
[glow=gold,2,300]"Good-bye."[/glow]

falling face first on the ground for some time, Mellira lay unconcios, appearing dead. She hadly breathed, and was unnoticable. The plasma had not killed her, but she would not necissarily live either. She hung in a limbo.

((note: never said he actually launched the plasma at her.))
The shapeshifter slowly slid over to the plasma-burned human. He lowered a hand and placed it on her neck.
[glow=gold,2,300]Still breathing. Blood still moving. Energy still present in brain. Analysis: still living.[/glow]
[glow=gold,2,300]"DarkUmbra. It still lives. Do you have any wishes as to what happens to it now?[/glow]

As DarkUmbra looked on in great amusment, his shroud of shadows seemed to melt of of him. He approached the fallen humanoid with an evil look of grim fun.
[glow=purple,2,300]No. I can not destroy another innocent life. There was enough of that where I was exiled from. We've had our fun. Do not worry, we may still wreak more havoc. I don't object to killing of the filthy humans.[/glow]
As DarkUmbra spoke, he melded the shadows surrounding him into many solid black bands that tightly wrapped themselves around the fallen creature's many wounds and burns.
[glow=gold,2,300]Fear not Mellira, you shall not be cast away this day... This day.[/glow]

Mequidra was silent, but removed his hand from the girl's neck.
[glow=gold,2,300]"Your wishes will be supported this time. It is not beneficial to the shapeshifters to allow her to survive, but I do not wish to argue and be forced to harm you."[/glow]
The thought that he might lose a fight against the shadow creature had not even occured to him. He was avoiding any unnessicary expenditure of energy, however, so the shapeshifter remained silent.

Slowly, things began to return to Mellira. The putrid scent of shape-shifting came first, then the gentle pulse of breath. Soon, she began to feel the hot sun and the hear the rush of the gentle wind. She still did not open her eyes, instead concentrated on breathing.

The shapeshifter felt the subtle movements in the ground that indicated that the half-elf had awoken. He blinked his ghostly eyes and spoke into her mind only, so that DarkUmbra could not hear.
[glow=gold,2,300]"This being saved your life. When I find you next, I will make certain you do not survive the encounter."[/glow]
He melted into the ground and swam along it until he was next to his ally. Slowly, he morphed back into his normal shape.
[glow=gold,2,300]"Shall we depart? I know not where humans lie."[/glow]

Once again, Mellira was afraid. She knew she must conquer her fear, though. If this thing could talk into her head, he could certinally sense her fear. She waited for feeling to return to her legs before scrambling up and hurring away. She tripped over her clumsey feet, which were still numb from the plasma blast.

DarkUmbra looked aggrivated as Mequidra made this comment. Almost as if he would take pleasure from destroying the humans. Apparently tired of helping, he lifted the bandages from Mellira and melded and twisted them into a huge sword.
[glow=purple,2,300]We shall locate the humans when we come across them, as for this one, let her live this day, but Mellira, watch yourself in the future for I may not feel the same compassion that I do today. And now, Mequidra, we take our leave.[/glow]

Mequidra sensed something odd about the shadow man. It seemed to him that he was indecisive, that he didn't know what he wanted.
[glow=gold,2,300]"Yes. But how to leave is the question . . ."[/glow]
The shapeshifter suddenly remembered the speeder on which Kruck had ridden, and remembered that he had copied it. Slowly mutating, he began to take on the shape of the large machine. In about thirty seconds, he had completed his transformation.
[glow=gold,2,300]"This will suffice. Let us leave."[/glow]
The shapeshifter shot off across the island, heading inland.
