We need something to spiff up this here board a little... so I'm putting this up.
Ok, basically, I just bought this fairly rare PSone game. It has the slowest start to an rpg I've ever put up with, but, if you're willing to suffer for a good solid 20 some minutes, you'll get a good gaming experience out of it afterwards. Battle system's fun, sort of like a precursor to the ToS of today only on a grid. More details later when I feel like it... if ever.
I'd be having a lot more fun with it if I wasn't stuck already. -.- I'm only in the first dungeon with Rena. So I'm hoping Firehawk will see this here thread and enlighten me on what to do, seeing as he likes the game. Also, I want to find out for myself how awesome Dias Flac is.
Anyways... I can't get past the stupid sign that says, "Dragon's Nest < thattaway." And the only other "exit" I can find has guards, where Rena automatically turns back. So. What the flip am I supposed to do? I could go find a walkthrough for it, but I don't want to do that if I don't have to yet.

Just wait till you get to the dubbing for the magic girl. Man, that made my ears blead. Dias is pretty cool, but you only get him in Rena's story. Ashton, however, kicks ass. XD He'll make up for the slack.
You'll run into some problems with the battle system later on because once you hit the attack button, you completely lose control of your character. I remember one time, there was an obstacle right in the middle of the battlefield and I told my guy to attack but he had the feint skill (runs behind and then attacks) so he ended up running all the way to the other side of the obstacle, then trying to run trhough the obstacle for like, 10 minutes before he finally killed the damned thing. Its pretty fun though, especially combo-ing the skills. XD A word of advice, when you get that skill that makes what-his-face go "Tear him to pieces" and make a bunch of earth spikes jut out of the ground, use it from long range, but as close as possible to the target. At long range, a lot more spikes come out meaning tons more damage. XD Oh, and any weapon or armor that shoots fireballs or the like out of it will also be your new best friends.

I think there's a path to the north, then when you can't go north anymore you go east, and eventually you'll come into a chapel sort of room. That's where you'll fight the first boss battle of the game... easy little punk, just take control of Claude for that fight and slice his butt to pieces.
Heh, it's been forever since I actually played it, but I can still remember quite a bit about it.
Oh, and DO NOT get Precis. Ky, you thought Celine's voice was bad? Precis is a million times worse. DAMN, it hurts to use her... get Bowman instead, he's awesome.
My favorite team... Hmm... Claude, Rena, Celine, Ashton, Bowman, Dias, Chisato. I hate Precis, I freaking hate Noel.
I love this game.

thx. Actually I figured it out for myself... I couldn't see the stupid door! -.- stupid thing looked like part of the wall.
Aweeee no Dias in Claude's story... oh well I'm doing both of them. Hehehe.
Um so question... how do you choose which characters you get and such? I just got the magic girl from Cross (Celine I think). How many characters ARE there anyways?

Lemme think...
Claude Rena Celine Ashton (can't get if you get Opera) Opera (can't get if you get Ashton) Ernest (must have Opera to get) Bowman (can't get if you get Precis) Precis (can't get if you get Bowman) Dias (can only get as Rena) Leon (can only get as Claude) Noel Chisato
Ignore Precis and Noel, they both suck. Precis' voice is also the single most painful thing in the world. I've said that already, but it merits repeating.
So, 12 characters. And you can get up to 8 of them. So basically, take your pick between Ashton and Opera (because that's really my only choice I make) and there you go.

Hmmmm thx. Glad that I have it figured out now. I think I'll go with Ashton. I stumbled upon a game quote site however long ago, and his barrel obsession humors me. ^_^

Lalala... okay! I just got past the town that gets wiped out by a chain of random natural events... earthquake followed by flood... what was up with that. Actually I didn't just get there, I haven't played for awhile. So where do I go next? I feel like asking instead of figuring it out XP. Because they are just like, let's go to such-and-such place! And I'm like... great... where the heck's that... Don't feel like wandering around the world map like I did in Tales of Symphonia.

If I remember right, you go past the cave you went to earlier (Cross Cave) and head to the town just past there. It's called Mars.
Then there's another town past that one... Herlie, it's a port town as well, whereas Mars is a smaller village with a forest behind it.
