"We've never met," Prokhorov said to Mequidra after acknowledging the disappearance of the shadow creature. "But I know who you are. I've seen you before. My name is Prokhorov."

[glow=gold,2,300]"Really. Prokhorov . . . Anyway. I require the bodies of fallen foes to make myself stronger. You seem a reasonable candidate . . ."[/glow]
Mequidra's other arm began to form into a large plasma weapon. When had he aquired this? It had been long ago, too long . . . It finally solidified, ridiculously large compared to the shapeshifter it was attached to. Mequidra needed the bodies; he didn't need them in one peice.

As the two on the ground began to prepare for combat, had they been looking at the trees they would have noticed the darkness seeming to slither down the tree right next to them. For it was not in character of DarkUmbra to not engage in combat.
[glow=gold,2,300]Who should I assist? Should I aid the shapeshifter, he may turn and attack me next, while the human has pledged his loyalty. However his race has been known to lie.[/glow]
And with that, a platform of smooth pure black material formed under the shady figure and he was shot into the air.
[glow=gold,2,300]If I spin around, I can purposely confuse my radar sense into not knowing which being is which. I shall then attack the first one chosen, and aid the other.[/glow]
Still in the air, DarkUmbra began to spin gaining in speed and then, abruptly, stopped. From this height he could "see" the lifeforms below and not distinguish. With that he launced a barrage of pure black throwing darts at one of them, which one (if either) would he hit?
((Then I should say something like, "Tune in next week...", but I'm sure it won't be that long.))

Mequidra looked up at the being, and quickly guessed what he intended to do. He wondered what it thought it was doing.
[glow=gold,2,300]If it attacks me, it will die. If it attacks Prokhorov, he will die. Not much of a choice . . . [/glow]

When Mequidra looked back at Prokhorov, he was not there.
He had left both ways of the trail open to Prokhorov, and he had taken one of them. Invisible, now. Prokhorov stepped softly along the trail, making no sound but moving quickly.

Mequidra's eyes narrowed. Hunts were always more time consuming than simple kills, and efficency was what shapeshifters were based upon.
[glow=gold,2,300]"I cannot see you, but I shall find you. And you are not the only one who can disappear . . ."[/glow]
The shapeshifter slowly melted out over the ground, assuming its color as he did so. He sank into every crack, feeling for vibrations from Prokhorov's footsteps. When he felt them, he quickly began to seep along the ground towards the human, even while retaining the texture and color of the earth beneath him.

When Prokhorov felt he had gotten far enough away, he stopped in a dark corner of trees and foliage.
This is the first time I've met Mequidra, and I agree with Liutenant Gordon... I don't like him at all.
Prokhorov remained there for some time, not making a movement or a sound.

After having his attack fail, and everyone else disapear, DarkUmbra decided to join the fun. As the silhouette dropped from the sky, it began to fade into darkness. By the time he had reached the ground, a large portion of the "arena" was covered in the strange black mist and none of the three were visible.

The shapeshifter stopped moving. He had lost all sense of moving, and was not articulate enough to sense where any other noises were coming from. Slowly, he reformed himself and looked around, making a general thought announcement.
[glow=gold,2,300]"You've eluded me thus far. It would be wise to continue to do so."[/glow]
He slid back down the road, towards the shadowy creature.

DarkUmbra decided that it was futile to help the humans, and so began to withdraw his concealing mist. As he stood in front of Mequidra, he spoke.
[glow=purple,2,300]Mequidra right? I seek to aid you in anyway I possibly can. You as well apear to be one of a kind in the human's world thus we are similar.[/glow]
With that, DarkUmbra launched a bolt of black energy at the source of where his sonar was telling him that the human was.

Prokhorov gasped as the trees and foliage between him and the other burst into flame, nearly scorching him before he managed to get away.
That had to have come from that shadow creature... So that's what I get for my pains! All that stuff about being misunderstood was just a ruse! ...I'd better put distance between myself and them... and quickly!
Prokhorov hurried down the trail and through the dense bush quickly in the gathering darkness. He didn't stop until he was nearly two miles away.

As DarkUmbra "watched" the figure fade into the night, he called to Mequidra.
[glow=purple,2,300]Quickly shapeshifter! He escapes, do you not desire his physical self? Let us pursue him![/glow]
And with that DarkUmbra summoned up a jettison of shadow magic behind him because his physical weakness is so severe that he would stand no chance of catching the human without it. He shot forward in the direction of the fleeing one.

As Prokhorov was nearing the place he knew to be Kruck's hideout, he saw someone in the distance, ahead. It was hard to make out who it was, because it was dusk. But he/she/it looked familiar.
As long as we're going the same direction, I'll follow them.
(((By the way, it was Shimmer, which explains how Prokhorov got into Kruck's hideout. This is continued in the thread Kruck's hideout/home.)))

[glow=gold,2,300]"Let him go. We will see him again. And there are other things to hunt.[/glow]
The shapeshifter looked in the general direction of where he assumed the shadow creature was.
[glow=gold,2,300]"Perhaps I can show you some of the towns. We can make a very lasting impression on them."[/glow]
He punctuated this last remark by morphing his hand into a very long sword. His eyes brightened as he awaited an answer.

Having retuned the second he heard Mequidra's response (having super hearing has its perks) DarkUmbra agreed readilly and wide-eyed as he began to form a similar, however straight black sword in his hand.
