A tangerine sun hung loosely within the sky, marking the midday hour as Harle stood, tenser than usual as her eyes rested within a chilling glare. Highwaymen, possibly four or five neared her, rapiers, knives, swords, and daggers in hand as they sniggered, eying her blade lustfully. Desire twinkled within their eyes as they sashayed, their boots and galoshes beating against the hardened ground in heavy anticipation. They wanted the blade, as most bandits would when the blade trapped them within a web of covetousness. Their voracity excited Harle, though it would have been best to avoid them. But a prick within the back of her mind told her to strike, to gut them, to give them what they wanted; a taste of the blade. They were in an alley, a wide and thick one, painted in darkness. Many would be oblivious to their screams.
I should just get this over with, besides, I need to find a lava bed of some sort. A blacksmith is my likely aid in this case...
"Heh, what's the matter little girl," bantered an aloof man, as he tipped his askew sombrero.
"Yeah," sneered another, grinning from ear to ear as he stood at her right, peering at the blade with his emerald gaze.
"I'd like it if you all would leave me be..." Harle countered as she threw a glare towards the lot of them.
"Oh, we'll leave you, just as long as we get the sword," the sombrero wearing man replied.
"Heh, yeah, it appears a bit too big for yourself. We'd like to take it off of your hands." One of the unkempt accomplices jeered at her, gaining a few uproarious chuckles from his companions.
I really need to free myself of this crowd, it shall be night soon, and that is an ideal time to cross this terrain. Heh, soothing to my eyes and accommodating to my attire.
"Your concern isn't needed, besides, my blade would rather consume you instead," Harle retorted, her anger lessening as unfiltered amusement burrowed into her grin.
The men scoffed at her incredulously as their leader took his first strike at her, charging instantly as she leveled her blade before her torso. He held a dagger solidly within his hand as he struck, only to have his assault parried by an effortless turn of her blade. His determination was severe as he pushed with all of his bulk against the dagger, trying to break her resolve. But she unflinchingly held her place, almost managing a small grin as his face grew a strenuous shade of crimson. He threw a wary gaze to his men, motioning them to aid him with a simple gesticulation of his head. They nodded, growing more stern as they neared her at all corners; there were only four, so the kill would be easy.
"Heh, so you need your men to go up against a 'little girl', huh?" Harle questioned tauntingly as she threw him off, her blade setting loosely in front of her.
"Shut up, Gaji, Ronin, take her," the oaf commanded as he was pushed back a few feet, easing his butch frame against a few trash cans.
Gradually, a dark and thick obscurity began to bleed from Harle's form, startling the two men as they rushed at her, unprepared for what Harle had in store. She wasn't about to waste time upon a petty tussle with humans, these men could die for all she cared. And frankly, she didn't. The head honcho, along with his two on-looking men looked on in terror as a thick darkness insinuated about Harle's body, having the embodiment of a serpent. It hissed gloriously as Harle's crystal blue gaze turned dark, glowering at Gaji and Ronin as they slid to a sudden halt. Instantly, they attempted to flee, being set into a frenzy as the serpent slithered out towards them, opening its dark jaw, a sea of darkness within its throat. Its darkly outlined fangs bit into each man as it swerved about their bodies, stimulating pained outcries as it impaled them severely.
Heh, two down, and three to go.
After gaining its fill of blood, it abandoned the corpses as they fell, crimson dripping from its tangible mouth as it eyed the final three with a mischievous gleam within its eyes. The leader of the group fell wanly against a wall as his other two accomplices began to run, trying to escape the dark alley as they shouted for help.
"Help, help us, she's a demo-," one was caught off as the lengthy serpent grabbed a hold of his chest, holding him back as it pierced him starkly.
"Robies," inquired the other as he turned back, to see his friend slain as the obscure snake dismissed the fallen prey.
The man hadn't any time to run as the beast struck yet against, impaling his skull with a thorny fang as it leveled him to the ground. His cries were shattered as the serpent narrowly engulfed his head, though only lapped a bit of his blood, before releasing his quivering figure. With time, his cries gave way into whimpers as his daze died off, his inanimate eyes upon his frightened leader as he wallowed in fear, leaning against a red brick wall. All the while, Harle distantly watched the display, her hunger flaring erratically as she allowed her shadowy essence to handle the ordeal. Only after the last of his men had fallen, she turned towards their apparent 'leader', as his pupils were lost within a pool of fright. She grinned ever so gingerly, as she called the serpent to her, with a simple arm gesture. The serpent eventually bound itself to her body as she approached the final man, a semblance of apathy reaching her face as she grinned at him.
"No-no... No! Stay back! Please, I won't take your blade, just let me live!" He cried as crumbled against the wall, quivering as his eyes fell submissively to the darkness of her serpent as it neared him.
She gave him no answer as her reptilian companion abandoned her slim frame, rising before the highwaymen as he let out a piercing scream. It lacerated his chest instantly, delving into his gut as thick blood dripped from its slithery tongue and jaw. Harle had already kicked her boots into motion by then as she sought to escape the delicious aroma filling the air. After the serpent was satiated with its kills, it hovered towards her body, seeping into her dark frame as it dispersed into nothingness. The dark alley was now a bloody mess, five bodies simply scattered about the area, and with incessantly fearful looks scarred into their eyes. She easily dismissed their corpses as she exited into the town, walking down the hardened street, without a single trace of blood upon her boots, and with a nonchalant air clinging to her dark frame.
Heh, I guess I had lied... not as though they were worthy of being slain by this blade.
A calm sigh escaped her lips as she gladly left the intoxicating scent, her bloodlust was far behind her as her eyes scoured the streets.
Now, to find that blacksmith.
