Araxis, the Night Treader, the Shadowstalker, the Strider in Darkness, the Walker of the Unseen Way, the Lurker in the Gloom . . . Agent of the God-King
Race: Moonshadow
Gender: Male
Alignment: Evil
Appearance: Araxis appears as nothing more than a cloud of shadows and darkness swirling about, writhing and boiling like a sea. When he wishes, he can take the form of a hominid, a featureless black body surrounded by dancing shadows, the size and general shape of a human but poorly defined--like a shadow, though three dimensional. His presence is accompanied by a chill, and a fading of the light, both due somewhat to his natural aura of gloom and somewhat to his connection to the negative aspects of reality.
Personality: Cold (punny, ain't it? heh heh . . .) and cruel, Araxis cares nothing for the worries of the living--or their lives, for that matter. He enjoys seeing the torment of those whose hearts still beat, whose blood is still warm, whose love and souls remain. And he hates them for the very crime of life when he is an abomination, unnatural and lifeless yet still animate and sentient. But though it would be Araxis' greatest joy to reap the lives of all those who still live, he may only assault those ordained by the God-King to be threats to the Holy Church of Truth; which only increases his hate and desire to wreak agony and death upon the living. Naturally, Araxis trusts no one but the God-King, his Holy Undead Lord, and is ever wary of dislike towards him.
Items/Weapons: No corporeal weapons or items does Araxis own, for he has no need. He kills and wounds by merely grasping someone with one of his hands, for the chill and evil of his touch his enough to cause pain and drain vigor from the touched.
Character Flaws: Needless to say, light is anathema to Araxis. While artificial lights are merely an agitation, sunlight will incapacitate Araxis, and even kill him if he is exposed long enough. Moonlight is the only light that acts contrary, and, in fact, strengthens him slightly. Fire, not only producing light and heat, but also representing a certain vibrancy and likeness to life, is likewise particularly dangerous to Araxis; it's touch injures him, and immolation is another method of extermination. Gold, representative of the sun, and therefore light and life, is similar in its dangerous properties to Araxis as silver is to werewolves. Finally, normal corporeal weapons do not cause especial harm to Araxis--however, if enough damage is sustained by his material body, he will be forced to retreat in order to resubtantiate, repairing his body to working capacity.
Associates: None. The God-King is not an associate, but a deity.
History: Born under the perpetual night of the Umbra system, orbitting a burnt out star on Umbra II, a barely habitable ball of rock, Araxis was raised in poverty. He was introduced to and joined the subversive Cult of the God-King at a young age, and engaged in multiple illegal activities therein. He worked his way up in rank through cunning, subterfuge, and assassination. The High Priests took notice of his natural ability at stealth and decided to employ him as an Agent of the God-King, an assassin for the cult. Araxis was eager enough, still young and filled with a sense of bravado; the priests turned him into a Moonshadow, a type of undead that resides in the shadows and kills with a draining touch. Bound to the High Priests, he had no choice but to follow their orders. Time passed and the cult grew into the Holy Church of Truth. Araxis' jobs were many and varied; a swath of death and despair was his legacy. Eventually, he became something like a favored pet to the God-King, and was afforded a direct link to that ultimate mind so as to receive orders directly from the deity. Araxis' arrival on Fyia, due to a miscalculated shadow jump, has been looked upon as a fortuitous oppurtunity to expand the evergrowing Church through conversion of the locals--and, naturally, the God-King has little purpose for those who oppose him.
