History:

Gender: Male
Race: Caucasian Human
Physical Appearance:
At 16, Blue has a handsome face, something he prides himself about. His chin is not split, and always kept clean-shaven. Blue has a bit of an obsession about hygiene, and shaves daily. This obsession shines through in other areas as well. Blue always smells rather pleasant (unless he’s been out drinking), and notably lacks the trademark acne of impoverished young men. His hair varies for shaved to shoulder-length, depending on whim. It is currently somewhere between short and long, looking very shaggy. Blue’s hair grows fast.
For a body, Blue appears tall at 5’10”. His build is lanky and somewhat… stretched. Blue is handsome, with a little muscle and not much fat. He is addicted to angel root, but has tried to cut down recently. The addiction still shows, Blue having lost a lot of weight in the process. That and a slight malnourishment as a youth He has a tattoo on his inner right ankle, one of a rather well-done red four leaf clover. Unfortunately, the tattoo artist screwed up, and one of the clover leaves has a chip in it where a careless needle slipped. Blue wouldn’t have it any other way.
Blue’s wrists are adorned with various love bracelets, each with a certain woman behind it. Blue has been with quite a few women for his age, but only creates a love bracelet for the most memorable ones. He currently has three, each of which has an identical counterpart on the wrist of a rather beautiful lady. (lady in medieval standards. 15+ yrs of age.) He has no ring on his fingers, which are rather dexterous and very good at rolling smokes.
Blue has a rather graceful way of walking, and is always very conscious of his surroundings. If a stone suddenly fell overhead, he would undoubtedly notice and step out of the way. In the same manner, he has a knack of spotting men that are after him, even in a crowded pub. This skill has been useful in many of his romantic affairs, especially when his partner has “forgotten to tie up loose ends”. His grace is uncanny, although with his posture it looks more like he’s sliding everywhere. All of this would probably slip the mind of a casual observer. All they would see is one of those interesting men who is an “eye turner”.
Alignment: Looks out for himself first. Friends second. Screw morals.
Personality:
To his friends, Blue Hailey is the man everyone wants to be. His attitude is suave and relaxed, not stressing anything. He is amazingly popular with the ladies. Blue is especially lucky when it comes to gambling. He seems to know exactly when and what to bet. Blue likes to be among his friends, because he can fit that image, and is honestly happy. For the most of the time, he can be that popular guy with all the moves… and he is genuinely happy.
Blue is also an angel root addict. He has a good smoke on average about once per week. He just loves the stuff. There’s no reason except for the repeated ecstatic feeling. Blue can get possessive about his root, but nothing, even his drug, comes before his friends. Blue is quick to make friends, and the only way to lose that friendship is an act of betrayal. Unfortunately it’s the same with enemies. If you’re lucky enough to be his friend, you have a man who would fight to the death beside you. If you’re his enemy, you shall be subject to not-so-friendly pranks, depending on how drunk and/or crazy he gets.
Blue has an odd set of values. He sees nothing wrong with stealing from a man he does not know or like, but it is very wrong to steal from a friend. In the same sense, he is more inclined to help out his friends, while less so with a random stranger. Since Blue has been surrounded by sin since an early age, he does not have many qualms about crime. He’s sort of immoral, and he knows it. Still, Blue is contemplative when he’s alone, and he at least can analyze himself. Blue sees all his flaws, but he’s afraid to change them. He thinks it might screw up his perfect little life.
Despite all this, Blue Hailey has a twinge of bipolarity. Small things, like a glass breaking, or maybe a name, sends him into a deep depression. His friends see his face sink, and he just sort of walks off sullenly. He usually wanders aimlessly for hours, or goes and smokes angel root until he pukes. He usually takes a few days to really seem himself again. These episodes happen about once every four months.

History:
On the harvest moon sixteen years hence, a young baby was born in Zaloria City to a Joseph and Esme Hailey. The boy was named Jonathan Pere Hailey. The Haileys were poor, Joseph being a laborer and Esme working at home. John had to fend for himself a lot of the time, although both parents tried to give him love when they could. John was quick to make friends with the urchins that hung out in his neighborhood, and was always a hero for his bravery and mischief. One day when he was eight, he had one of his bipolar shifts. It became apparent that he was depressed, and his friends started calling him “Blue”. The name stuck even after he “got happy” again.
It was all the typical poor boy stuff. Blue didn’t much go home to his parents, and was left to his own devices. His parents loved him, but worked around the clock. Blue did what he could/wanted to survive. He hand his friends made a game out of shoplifting from the local stores, and got to first name basis with the local guards. Blue was rather good at brawls, another to his list of admirable-traits-that-never-amount-to-anything. At age twelve, Blue was introduced to the world of angel root. It wasn’t a peer-pressure syndrome, just four friends who wanted to check out the new cool thing. Blue got some angel root in return for a favor, and the four smoked it in an alleyway. Needless to say, it was a good time, such a good time that it became a frequent occurrence.
About that time, Joseph Hailey started to become an alcoholic. While before Blue had only received a beating for the severest of offences, it came more regularly now. The boy and his father began to resent each-other, while Esme became far more passive. Blue began to spend more time away from home, sometimes sleeping on the streets rather than his own bed. He relied more heavily on root, and started stealing to support his habit. Blue came to a point where he couldn’t go a day without wisping.
For this part of his life, Blue retained his connection with the world. He still laughed, he still accompanied his friends, and he still got laid. Despite all this, those around Blue saw that he was having some issues. They pitied him, but at the same time, wasn’t everyone having issues? No one saw what was coming, even his closest friends. Blue told himself that angel root was fine, because it was better to be a wispy than an alcoholic. Getting high never hurt anybody.
One day Blue (15 years old) came home to Joseph in a fit of rage. He was beating Esme with a savage barrage. She had wanted to leave Joseph because of his drinking, and he was heartbroken. He had started off sitting down with her and talking. Midway through, he said “I need a drink,” and things went downhill from there. Blue walked to see Joseph knee-crawling drunk, beating his wife to death. Blue was shocked, and when the act was done, ran back into the streets crying. He became amazingly depressed for a month, never visiting home. Then one day, without warning, he was seen by his friends again. They asked how he was, and he just said, “much better, now that I killed him.” That was the last anyone ever asked about Blue’s family.
After that, Blue acted more proactively. He got a job as a guard, and cut down on his root habit. He was a corrupt guard, accepting bribes and letting just about any crime pass under his nose, and instead just tried to feel good about himself. He began bathing every night, smoking angel root less (now succeeding), and found a girlfriend who was a beautiful waitress, and very pure. She was the first of his love bracelets. It didn’t last of course, she couldn’t stand his friends and his root habit. Still, Blue genuinely felt good. Now life goes on. Blue is a bit richer than his friends because of a multitude of bribes he accepts, and a habit of winning at dice. He is rather happy, and has recently been transferred to a traveling job, where he is a marshal who hunts down escaped convicts. The pay is better, and the bribes are supreme. And thus we find Blue Hailey.
Angel Root:
Angel root is a plant similar to our cannabis. It takes a lot of water to grow, and the adult root is smoked. It has the same properties as cannabis, with a few differences. First off, it is mildly addictive physically, meaning that those who stop smoking it actually have withdrawal symptoms beyond placebo effects. Secondly, while it still makes the effected person very hungry, root also alters one’s metabolism so that less nutrients can be drawn from the food. This gives addicts a skinny look.
For slang, the plant is called either “root” or “wisp”. The latter is more common. An addict or frequent user is a “wispie” or a “fogger”. Someone high on angel root is “foggy”. The cigarettes used to smoke it is a “spliff”.
