Triunis closed his eyes again. His insides were torn with worry for Saya . . .
"He has power beyond what we can imagine. He's lost much of it by taking over Setthirosa, I'm sure, but he'll get it back. Then the laws of time and space won't even apply to him*."
He pulled out his flute and began to play again. A lone beast from the previous herd came rumbling towards him out of the distance.
"I suppose we shall meet again . . ."
((*The laws of powerplaying, however, will. No worries.))

Longshanks stepped around to stand in front of Triunis, wings still spread and causing oxygen rich blood to pump through his veins. "You've said nothing of how to stop this abomination. It must be stopped, you agree, yes?" The Orion detected great worry gnawing at the lizard, amplifying the small amount he himself fought. "I know that you are worried about it. We must prevent it from completing its task!"

Triunis closed his eyes and tilted his head back.
"Mahandronis is a Relic. An ancient artifact manifested within Setthirosa. His power was great to begin with, but now he's within an ex-scientist and the galaxy's best gunman. He's probably lost his former abilities, but it won't take him long to recover them. And then . . ."
He shuddered.
"You know what? If there were just some place to put him, somewhere where he wouldn't bother people. I'd just leave him here, but he'd find a way off."
The monarch tried to think about this. How could he stop it? Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind, and a split second later his stomach sank past his tail.
" . . . we could probably stop him with another Relic, but . . . the only other one available . . . "
He looked at the ground in unhappiness. He'd never wanted to have to resort to this.
" . . . is mine."

As Triunis spoke, Longshanks noted the sudden discomfiture of the lizard king. Why was he so unhappy about employing his own Relic to stop this Mahandronis? Did his Relic possess similar attributes--like consciousness and goals? If that was so, then perhaps it would be best to find another way to defeat the Mahandronis . . . but Longshanks was just assuming things now. He doubted if these things were true . . . though if they were . . .
"Tell me, this Relic of yours, it's not the same is it? It doesn't seek the same thing, will not rebel against you, yes? If you use it . . . you will not set forth another, equal, evil, will you?" Longshanks stared intently into Triunis' eyes, though his own were still hidden beneath his shock of chestnut hair.

Triunis shook his head again. From inside his robe, he pulled the pendant he wore around his neck.
Kasyune's Everlasting.
Could he really afford to release that on this world?
"The Relic I posses goes by the name of Kasyune's Everlasting, or just The Everlasting. Unlike most of the other relics, it manifets in its own form and body. It will serve me unquestioningly, but . . ."
He looked away. He remembered what it was capable of. How could he do that to the people here? Were its powers really worse than those of Mahandronis?
"It is very powerful. The collateral damage it causes is astounding. And I'm afraid that if I summon it, it won't leave. And then it'll just be wandering around destroying what it thinks I want it to. I can't have that."

"Indeed, quite a dilemma. Is there no other way to stop this 'Mahandronis'? There must be something to do, to stifle it at the very least." Longshanks scratched his beard, feeling the uncertainess of what to do in the being before him. The Orion knew not how this task might be performed, knew nothing of the thing, the "Relic" as Triunis called it, that must be stopped. The lizard king standing before him was, as far as he knew, the only creature with the knowledge to stop this "Mahandronis". "Come now, can you think of nothing else?"

Triunis sat down in the dust dejectedly.
"None I can think of. It's all very complicated . . . They weren't designed to be destroyed, or even to be limited in power. Every race made them before they were prepared for them. And now . . . well, you can see for yourself."
He looked up at the sky. Blue. Always blue on these worlds. Not the stone grey of Kasyune, the firey red of Baldethrak, not even the lifeless, silver sheen of Tritahtekku. More like Oreas . . .
"It will stop not even at the cost of its own existance. That is its one flaw . . ."

Longshanks squatted down beside Triunis where he sat in the dust. "Then we must exploit that flaw! This thing, this Mahandronis, this abomionation, must be stopped, destroyed. Take heart! There must be some way to terminate it; very few things are designed to be destroyed, yet they are nevertheless." Longshanks straightened to his full height, spreading his wings to their maximum span. He could feel them straining to be loosed to soar and dance once more in the clouds, and his mood was heightened slightly as his lungs drew more oxygen from the air he breathed deeply, filling his body with vitality; if this thing had a flaw, the Orion had little doubt that it could be defeated, and he was cheered by this thought. He let his feelings of optimism spill forth and into the lizard king sitting on the ground by his feet. "Come, let us fight this evil." He stretched out his broad hand to Triunis.

Triunis slowly stood, brushing himself off. It could work . . .
"Mahandronis will flee if he senses that his life is in danger. We need a decoy, and we need . . . oh, curses. I . . ."
He knew in his heart that there was only one thing on Fyia that could kill Mahandronis.
"I think that we will have to use The Everlasting. I don't want to, but . . ."
[glow=red,2,300]You make it sound like I've lost my mind.[/glow]
You HAVE!
[glow=red,2,300]I've done nothing that demonstrates any lack of sanity. I've always done what you've asked of me. And what your mother asked of me. And her father. This goes back to when you didn't even HAVE a king. Why would I lose my mind now?[/glow]
. . .
"Anyway. For a decoy, we'll want two people madly in lo . . . oh, no . . . "
Saya!

Longshanks shook his head as he suddenly sensed another presence. It was odd, though; the emotional presence felt ghostly. The only thing the Orion could equate it to was corporeality and incorporeality; normal people's emotions were "corporeal", while this was "incorporeal". Obviously that wasn't right, considering that by definition emotions were incorporeal, but the analogy made sense to Longshanks. He assumed that this new presence was the "Everlasting" Triunis spoke of. He couldn't discern its location, but at the moment he was more interested in hearing what the lizard king had to say.
Regarding Triunis carefully, Longshanks asked, "You're going to use this 'Everlasting' then? Even though you say it could cause massive collateral damage? . . . but then, to save Love, any price is worth it . . ." Once more, an image of Mellira appeared in Longshanks' mind, and he smiled slightly. The smile evaporated as the lizard continued. "What's this about a decoy, though? Are you planning to draw him out? Who would be appropriate to do so?" Longshanks' thoughts bent further towards Mellira, but he was uncertain if he was truly in love with her . . . yet . . .

Triunis shivered. He wanted to stop Mahandronis, but he didn't want Saya to get involved.
"Saya and I are in love. If Mahandronis feels our connection, he will be unable to resist us. Still, there must be another way. I don't want to risk her."
He rubbed his snout in contemplation. There were few ways to kill a Relic, very few . . .
"Maybe we can kill him without a distraction. The Everlasting and myself should be more than a match . . ."
For the first time on Fyia, The Everlasting spoke aloud, in the air around its master.
[glow=red,2,300]"My leige, you almost sound as though I couldn't destroy him by myself. As for this creature here, he shouldn't even need to get involved. Simply summon me, and I'll make certain every little bit of that Archarialite's gun ends up in a different galaxy. Or universe, if you prefer."[/glow]
"I don't have time to argue with you. I'll call you when I need you!"
Triunis shook his head and turned to Longshanks.
"He obeys orders. He just doesn't value anyone's life aside from mine, and he can't hurt me. That monster would level a city if he thought it would accomplish what I wanted."

Taken aback by the Everlasting's disembodied voice speaking in the air, Longshanks arched an eyebrow and scratched his beard. But Triunis' words were inspiring; perhaps he would not need to summon that thing to destroy the Mahandronis. Or perhaps he would . . . at least the Mahandronis would die. "Let us go then!" Longshanks cried. "We shall hunt this Mahandronis down and destroy! Let us be off! Perhaps you could track it down? I have no idea how . . ." Longshanks chukled to himself; here he was, all eager to hunt down this abomination, and he had no idea where to begin.

Triunis thought carefully. If he had Caiaphas here, tracking that thing down would be simple; the mechanoid could figure out where Mahandronis was headed before the Relic himself knew. But Triunis was alone, so he tried to think where Mahandronis would go.
"He'd probably go where he could do the most damage. A big city somewhere, possibly. I would say . . . Puralgatha."
The monarch thought. He hoped Chii hadn't stayed in Puralgatha; there was no way the Relic would let her live.
"Let's depart."
He began walking across the plains, wondering just what would happen.
